Longshan Temple
Longshan Temple is dedicated to Kuanyin, the Goddess
of Mercy. It was built in 1738 by Fukienese
immigrants as a branch of the original Lungshan
Temple in Fukien Province and took five years to
complete. Due to natural and man-made disasters, the
temple has been repaired and renovated on numerous
occasions. It faces south, with halls to the front
and back and a central hall surrounded by protective
dragons. The two bronze dragon pillars in the front
hall, the four dragon pillars in the central hall,
and the wooden carvings are all exquisitely crafted.
The well and shrine in the front hall are
particularly outstanding. The temple columns,
inscriptions, and plaques are also worth a look. |

The Yeliou Scenery
Yeliou is a 1.7-kilometer-long cape that juts into
the sea, where wave erosion, weathering, and the
action of the earth's crust have combined to create
sea-eroded trenches, candlestick rocks, mushroom
rocks, bean curd rocks, beehive rocks, potholes,
dissolved basins, and all sorts of other fantastic
rock formations. Among the most spectacular and
famous results of erosion here are those named Queen's
Head Rock, Fairy Shoe, and Candlestick Rock. |

Wulai (4 hours)
Wulai is a famous mountain village in northern Taiwan and is
located in water reservation area. Residents are most
aboriginal people (Tai Ya Tribe). There are high mountains
along the intersection of Nanshi Creek and Tunho Creek.
Beautiful scenery is formed by the high mountains and
running rivers. The place is famous for hot springs, trail
train (push-car), waterfalls and Yushian Amusement Park. It
is said that Wulai is a term used by Tai Ya Tribe. It means
hot spring. Thus, the hot springs here are acclaimed. The
quality of hot springs is carbonic acid springs with minor
base. The hot springs are clear, transparent, colorless, and
odorless. Hot spring spa is effective in healing dermatitis.
The famous Wulai Waterfall is about 80 meters high. It is
magnificent like a white silk cloth coming down from the
sky. In addition, the sightseeing trail train (push-car) is
part of the uniqueness of Wulai. Trail train (push-car) used
to be for transportation of lumber but now it is for
tourists' pleasure. The aboriginal culture center across
Wulai Waterfall is a remodeled museum of aboriginal folk
art. It introduces the aboriginal culture, customs and
habits of Tai Ya Tribe and demonstrates the historical
artifacts. The highlight of the visit to the center is the
singing and dancing show of aboriginal people

Yangmingshan National Park
(4 hours)
Yangmingshan National Park is the most natural of Taiwan's four
national parks. Established in 1985, it covers an area of 11,456
hectares and stretches from Kuangtsui Mountain and Wuchih
Mountain in the east to Hunglu Mountain and Mientien Mountain in
the west. In the north, it extends to Chutzu Mountain and Earth
God Ridge, and in the south to Shamao Mountain. Elevation ranges
from 200 to 1,200 meters above sea level.
More than 40 years after its founding, Yangmingshan Park
continues to charm visitors with its natural beauty and
panoramic views of surrounding Chihsing, Shamao, Chutzu, and
Chungcheng Mountains. The 61-hectare park occupies a small part
of Yangmingshan National Park, but what it lacks in size it
makes up for in diversity of flora and fauna. Hundreds of
different kinds of flowers grow here, drawing crowds of visitors
during the blooming season. Other attractions include a pond, a
bridge with a stone inscription by Wang Yang-ming (after whom
the park is named), groves of plum blossoms, and an eye-catching
fountain. The park also contains a memorial to the 1911
Revolution and Taiwan's retrocession, Lungfeng Valley, steaming
sulphur springs, and a roaring waterfall. |
